Three Chinese students who impersonated celebrities to defraud fans have been sentenced to prison.

The trio, who bear the surnames Sun, Li, and Liu, pretended to be stars like Angelababy, Zheng Shuang (pictured above), Ouyang Nana and Dilraba Dilmurat , and cheated fans out of more than 300,000 yuan (S$61,500).

According to Chinese media, the students set up instant messaging accounts to organise activities like fan meets. They would then ask fans to donate funds to “support their idol” and in return, receive various gifts.
