Steve Ma, Wu Jiani are divorced
The couple remain friends even after the split
Taiwanese actor Steve Ma announced the end of his 10-year marriage with Chinese actress Wu Jiani on Weibo late last month (March 30).
At that time, the actor had written that the couple had drawn “the most perfect full-stop” on their relationship. The 55-year-old also extended his blessings to his ex-wife and their two sons, willing them to soar to greater heights.
After his post, which also mentioned that his younger brother, who had been convicted for kidnapping and ransom had been released from prison earlier, many speculated that the couple had split due to domestic violence, with some asserting that Steve wanted to focus on helping his younger brother start anew.
Yesterday, Jiani finally broke her silence on the matter, and shared more about their decision to call it quits on their marriage.
“How many decades do you have in a lifetime? The decade that we spent together has become an integral part of our lives,” she mused. The 34-year-old also shared that there was no right or wrong when it comes to love, as what’s most important is that the couple continue to grow throughout the relationship.
She also expressed her support for Steve’s decision, and clarified that there was no outside influences that caused them to end their relationship.
“This decision is the best for our lifestyles. We will continue to be family and friends, and will continue to support each other,” she wrote. The couple will share custody of their two sons.
Steve and Jiani tied the knot in 2007, on Valentine’s Day. They have two sons together, Ma Shitian, 8, and Ma Shixin, 7. Steve has a daughter, Ma Shiyuan, 25, from his first marriage.
