Squid Game Director Reveals What’s In Store For Season 2; Hopscotch To Be One Of The Games

Fans of Squid Game, rejoice!
In a recent interview with South Korean news broadcast series, JTBC Newsroom, director Hwang Donghyuk confirmed that there will indeed be a season two of the super popular South Korean Netflix series.
The 50-year-old previously shared that he had no intentions to start work on a second season after “expending all energy” on the first season, but it looks like he’s since changed his mind. Maybe the show's success has something to do with it?
Even better? Donghyuk also revealed some plotlines that he wants to explore in season two.
During the interview, the director shared that apart from feeling exhausted after shooting the first season, the show's popularity put a great amount of pressure on him as well.
“If [the audience’s] expectations are too high, there will [inevitably] be more opportunities where they might end up disappointed,” he said. However, he has since put aside his misgivings, and already has an inkling of what he wishes to focus on for the second season.

1. What’s the backstory of the Front Man and his brother?
At the end of the first season, police-officer-turned-Squid-Game-guard Hwang Jun Ho (played by Korean hottie Wi Ha Joon) was shot and presumably killed by his brother, Hwang In Ho (Lee Byunghun), who turned out to be not just the mysterious Front Man but also a past winner of the game.
However, some viewers speculate that In Ho did not fatally wound Jun Ho with the bullet, thus setting the stage for the policeman's return the next season.
Though Donghyuk did not confirm whether Jun Ho survived the shot, he did reveal that he hopes to focus more on the backstory of the Front Man aka In Ho, as well as Jun Ho.
So that means that we'll see more of the policeman right?
2. Did the final message sent by Jun Ho attract the attention of the police?
Previously, in an interview with British newspaper The Times, Donghyuk mentioned that he might centre the second season around the police, as well as the police force as an institution.
"I think the issue with police officers [being slow to take action] is not just an issue in Korea. I see it on the global news that the police can take too long to act on things —there are more victims or a situation gets worse because of them not acting fast enough,” he said in the interview.
In season one, Jun Ho can be seen trying repeatedly to send a message containing all the evidence he’s uncovered thus far to the police. However, his attempts were thwarted by a spotty internet connection.
Thus, it remains unknown if the police did eventually receive the message. And even if they did receive it, if we go by the director’s words, the authorities might not even take action. Yikes.
3. Will Seong Gi Hun return to the game?
At the end of season one, Seong Gi Hun (played by Lee Jung Jae) runs into the mysterious salesman (played by Gong Yoo) again before he boards the plane to America to reunite with his daughter.
Gi Hun didn't take the flight eventually and it is hinted that he's returning to the games.
Donghyuk has since revealed what childhood games he would be featuring in the second season — hopscotch and spinning tops are the two he named — and netizens have taken that as a hint that Gi Hun would be competing again.
Jung Jae has also stated in interviews that he is looking forward to acting in Squid Game again, saying: "Will the next season still have Gi Hun as the protagonist or will he be in the background, allowing another character to take centre stage? I think that's hard to guess!"
In any case, the second season is definitely going to be interesting
