SPOP SING! on the hunt for next local singing sensation
The competition will see Joanna Dong, Nathan Hartono and Boon Hui Lu step up as its ambassadors as they search for the next-big singing talent
Do you have a passion for singing, between the ages of 13 and 25 and a current student in a local institution? If so, you could be the one we’re looking for.
SPOP SING! will make its grand return to television screens this year, as Mediacorp embarks on the search for new singers who can reinterpret local compositions (like Xinyao songs or hit songs sung by Mandopop artistes like Jacky Cheung and A-Mei that are composed by Singaporean talents) and give it a refreshing spin.
Fans of local singers would remember seeing familiar faces such as Stefanie Sun, JJ Lin and more make their respective appearances on the programme in the past (the 2008 programme was then titled S-Pop Hurray! and had its grand finals at the Indoor Stadium).
This time around, audience members can expect to see the show's ambassadors Joanna Dong, Nathan Hartono and Boon Hui Lu, just to name a few, work their magic with hosts Bonnie Loo, Lee Teng and YES 933 deejay Gao Meigui.

Eight campus auditions, which will kick off at the end of May, along with two public auditions in June, will pave the way to finding the next singing champion. The audition process will see applicants stepping into egg-shaped karaoke capsules to sing a song of their choice, with the capsule’s shape symbolising incubation and anticipation of a new beginning.
Contestants who make it to the next round will face tough competition with the rest of the top 20 quarter finalists, and the number will then be whittled down in the quarter and semi-finals before the top four battle it out at a showdown, to be held at a music festival at the Padang on November 4.
On that very night, a winner will be crowned and the victor will be decided by public voting.
More details such as the audition locations and show format will be revealed in the days to come, but if you think you’ve got what it takes, it’s time to get your creative juices flowing and vocal chords warmed up for what could be your next step to becoming Singapore’s next music sensation.
