Song Hye Kyo Ate Konjac Rice For 2 Months For The Scene Where She Strips Down To Her Underwear In The Glory
Totally worth it.
In Netflix drama The Glory, Korean actress Song Hye Kyo, 41, plays Moon Dong-Eun, a primary school teacher who is out to exact vengeance on her high school bullies.
In one memorable scene, Hye Kyo's character strips down to her underwear to show her frail body and the scars she still carries, no thanks to her tormenters' nasty work with, of all things, an iron hair curler.
To portray the still emotionally tortured and physically wrecked Dong-Eun, Hye Kyo reportedly went on an intense diet.
According to the show's screenwriter Kim Eun-sook, they had asked for Hye Kyo's consent before shooting the abovementioned scene and she agreed to doing it without hesitation.
She even asked Eun-sook to give her some time to lose weight.
It's said that Hye Kyo went on a konjac diet for two months and only ate konjac rice for all her meals during that period.
For those who don't know, konjac is a root vegetable that's found in Asia. It's a soluble fiber which absorbs water and swells into a gel that fills the stomach and curbs a person's appetite.
