Sodagreen's Wu Qing Feng Urges Taiwan Netizens To Stop Sightseeing As COVID-19 Cases Surge

On Wednesday (May 19), frontman of Taiwanese indie band Sodagreen Wu Qing Feng took to social media to share a post by a Penghu netizen asking music critic Jamie Lu to help discourage people from visiting his hometown.

“Penghu’s tourist season started recently. Even though guest houses are willing to give a full refund, tourists still insist on visiting Penghu for holiday. Medical resources are low on the island, if there’s an outbreak, it is really no joke,” said the netizen.

Turns out Penghu isn't the only place seeing an influx of tourists.

Qing Feng said that he and his friends have also been seeing a lot of tourists in Kenting and Taitung where they live, and worse, these tourists are not wearing masks.

“This is not the time for sightseeing. The entire Taiwan has been upgraded to Level 3. Please don’t cause trouble for others,” he wrote on IG Stories.

During a Level 3 alert, people are required to wear masks at all times when venturing out, and indoor gatherings are limited to five people, while outdoor gatherings are restricted to 10. A wide spectrum of business and public venues will also close, with the exception of essential services, hospitals, and government buildings.

Other celebrities have also taken to social media to post messages of support, as well as urge people to stay home.

Jay Chou shared the music video of his hit ‘I Truly Believe’ on Tuesday with the caption: "Let's pray to God", while his wife Hannah Quinlivan wrote: “Prevent the [spread of the] pandemic, let's do it together. "

Singer Cyndi Wang encouraged her followers to "stay at home if you have nothing to do and sleep, wear a mask when you go out."
