Singha Heir Sexual Abuse Controversy: What To Know About The Bhirombhakdi Family Behind Thailand's Singha Empire And Their Net Worth

You may know Singha for their beverages but that's not why it's been hogging headlines recently.

On May 9, activist and marine conservationist Siranudh “Psi” Scott, 29, posted a video on Facebook accusing his older brother, Sunit “Pi” Scott, of sexually abusing him when he was younger, while also opening up about ongoing tensions within their family.

Siranudh and Sunit are sons of Chiranuj Bhirombhakdi and part of the influential Bhirombhakdi family, which owns Boon Rawd Brewery, the company behind Singha beer.

In the clip, Siranudh alleged that he had been sexually abused multiple times by Sunit between the ages of 12 and 24. He also claimed that he had recordings of the incidents and that his family knew about what had happened, but no one stepped in to help.

“I don’t want anyone to call me a Singha heir. People don’t know the truth,” Siranudh said tearfully.

My brother sexually abused me. He didn’t do it just once; he did it many times when I was a teenager. Everyone in the family knew because they listened to the tape I recorded of my brother confessing. No adult in my life has ever helped me. I’ve had to do everything on my own because I had no choice,” he said.

Alongside the allegations, Siranudh also revealed that his mother is suing him over an inheritance left to him by his late grandfather, Chamnong Bhirombhakdi, the former chairman of Singha Corp.

This year, my mother filed a lawsuit against me to claim property my grandfather gave me. She calls me an ungrateful child because I spoke out about what my caregiver did,” he said, referring to past mistreatment by said caregiver.

Siranudh also claimed that whenever he turned to older family members for help, he was told to apologise to his mother instead.

According to the Bangkok Post, Siranudh said he felt overwhelmed and unsure of what to do next, adding that he could no longer continue living under his current circumstances. He said he did not believe he could remain with a family that, in his view, did not value his humanity or understand his pain.

He then apologised for the distress his situation had caused others, but added that he could not continue living with people he felt treated him this way, breaking down as he spoke.

Just how rich are the Bhirombhakdi family, the people behind Singha?

The Bhirombhakdi family is one of Thailand’s best-known business dynasties, mainly recognised for founding Boon Rawd Brewery, the company behind Singha beer.

The family-owned empire includes Boon Rawd Brewery and its subsidiaries operating under the Singha Corporation umbrella. Beyond its beer brands like Singha, Leo, and U Beer, the group expanded into bottled water, soft drinks, and energy drinks, as well as food products such as seaweed snacks and rice-based products.

The conglomerate has also grown far beyond F&B over the years, branching areas such as into packaging and manufacturing, venture capital investments, and real estate development. In fact, the property development arm of Singha Corporation group alone reported total assets of approximately 68.4 billion Thai Baht (S$2.65 billion) at the end of 2025.

The business was founded in 1933 by Phraya Bhirombhakdi, who set up Thailand’s first locally owned brewery and launched Singha beer in 1934.

Today, his grandson, Santi Bhirombhakdi, is the president and CEO of Boon Rawd Brewery. Santi and his family are among the richest in Thailand, with an estimated net worth of S$2.3–2.7 billion.

Chiranuj Bhirombhakdi, the mother of Siranudh and Sunit, is the granddaughter of Phraya Bhirombhakdi.

Born into the influential family on his mother’s side, Siranudh has struck out on his own as a marine conservation activist.

He worked as a park ranger and advisor to the President of Thailand’s National Parks, and gained attention online for his strict enforcement in southern Thailand’s marine parks and for confronting tourists and operators who break the rules, earning both praise and criticism.

Siranudh’s brother, Sunit, reportedly married actress Mild Lapassalan in December 2025.

According to KBIZoom, Siranudh allegedly tried several times before the wedding to contact Mild to warn her about the situation, but the ceremony still went ahead. It was also said that he was prevented from attending the wedding.

Separately, reports have also claimed that the actress is currently pregnant, although she has not made any official statement regarding the current controversy.
