Hong Kong actor Simon Yam, 68, is known as showbiz's 'King of Property', and for good reason.

He has been investing in real estate since 1990, and is said to own over 30 properties in cities such as Hong Kong, Paris, Manhattan, London, Beijing, Shanghai and Singapore.

The actor was recently photographed purchasing another property in China

The star, who previously expressed interest in properties in China's Guangdong province, was recently seen sealing the deal for an apartment in Zhongshan.

A netizen shared pictures Simon’s Zhongshan apartment viewing session on social media, with the caption: “If you’re looking for real estate, you should choose [the ones at] Zhongshan. [You may get to] be neighbours with Hong Kong movie star Simon Yam!”

In one of the pics, Simon was accompanied by three real estate agents as he inspected the apartment and its surrounding areas.

The actor clearly liked what he saw, as he was later photographed in the estate’s sales room signing the contract for his new purchase.

According to reports, actors Wayne Lai and Lawrence Ng also own properties in Zhongshan, and it takes only an hour and a half to get there from Hong Kong.

Turns out, instead of keeping it as a property for investment, Simon plans to live in his new Zhongshan apartment.

“I’ve been acting for so many years, and I now wish to be in a place with more greenery so I can live at a slower pace. When I have a week or two of down time, I plan to stay here for a couple of days and spend time drawing, playing ball games, and doing other exercises. Plus, I have access to everything I want here,” said Simon during an interview with the real estate company.

According to online reports, Simon’s new luxury apartment complex has three-room and four-room units and an idyllic mountain view. The prices for the apartments start from 1.6mil yuan (S$304K).

He must have been satisfied with what he saw

Simon once revealed in an interview that he was paid poorly when he was contracted to TVB for the first 16 years of his career. As such, he could not afford to buy any property when he left the broadcaster in the late 1980s.

However, over the years, he learnt to invest in property at “the right time”, such as during the SARS outbreak in 2002, and the financial crisis in 2008, when real estate prices were at an all-time low.

It took time for Simon to become the 'Property King' he is today
