Shy Toddler Reacts Awkwardly When Haidilao Staff Sing Her The Birthday Song — Other Parents Share Their Kids’ Similar Experiences

Haidilao’s flashy birthday celebrations are an extrovert’s dream, but for introverts, they can feel more like a nightmare.

Recently, a mother in China took to Xiaohongshu to share a video of her young daughter's birthday celebration at the popular hotpot chain. 

In the clip, a group of enthusiastic staffers gathered around the toddler, who was seated in a baby highchair, as a waiter placed a cake with a lighted candle in front of her. 

Then, in true Haidilao fashion, the restaurant erupted into their signature birthday song, cheering and clapping loudly.

Well, all except the birthday girl.

Clearly overwhelmed by all the attention, the little one looked down, clutching onto the highchair before slowly curling into a ball.

Pouting and avoiding all eye contact, she only looked up when the song had ended.

The girl's mum found her reaction highly amusing.

“When an introverted kid celebrates her birthday at Haidilao. But she was the one who requested this part,” she captioned the post.

The relatable clip struck a chord with many parents, who shared similar experiences in the comment section.

One shared a pic of her son wearing a birthday crown while covering his ears. Another posted an image of her child frowning and wiggling into the corner of his seat.

The most dramatic reaction? A little girl was so startled by the loud singing that she bolted under the table.
