Stephen Fung Jokes He Gets "Abused" By Wife Shu Qi
Taiwanese actress Shu Qi, 49, made her directorial debut with Girl, and the movie recently held its premiere in Beijing.
To show his support, her husband, Hong Kong actor-director Stephen Fung, sent a video message that had everyone laughing — and melting a little inside.
In the clip, which was played at the event, the 51-year-old joked that the film’s theme of domestic violence might sound like it was inspired by Shu Qi’s own past. The actress had previously shared about growing up in a poor and abusive household.
But Stephen quipped: “Actually, it’s about the domestic violence with me — she’s the one who often ‘abuses’ me now, right?”
He then panned the camera to their cat, saying: “You see, he said yes. Okay, I’m kidding,” before flashing a grin.
Wrapping up the clip on a sweet note, Stephen addressed his wife as “Brother Qi" before saying "You’re amazing I’m so proud of you”. He then blew a kiss through the screen.
Cue the collective “Awww.”
When Shu Qi won Best Director for Girl at the 30th Busan International Film Festival in September, Stephen proudly shared a pic of her with her clutching her award on Instagram, teasing in the caption: “Another win? There’s no more space at home, director!”
The couple first met on the set of gay romance movie Bishonen in 1997 and stayed friends for years.
It wasn’t until a trip to Japan in 2012 that sparks flew, and they tied the knot in a low-key ceremony in Prague in 2016.
