Show Luo Turns Down S$4.7K Per Episode Hosting Gig In Taiwan

It looks like there may be some hope for Show Luo to make his showbiz comeback after all… if he’s interested in doing so, that is.
For those who are out of the loop, the Taiwanese star fell from grace (pun intended?) in a spectacular way when his ex-girlfriend, Chinese blogger Grace Chow, announced their split and aired all his dirty laundry on social media back in April. Said dirty laundry includes cheating on her with multiple women and engaging in what she euphemised as “multi-player sports”.
The fallout from this salacious saga was intense, to say the least. In addition to suffering a severe blow to his reputation, Show was immediately dropped from a bunch of endorsement deals and television gigs, resulting in massive financial losses for the 41-year-old.
He’s been keeping a low profile and playing golf
Not all is lost, though. According to recent media reports, a Taiwanese entertainment channel is planning to launch a new weeknight variety programme and invited many production units to submit their bid for the rights to produce the show. One of the companies was looking to hire Show as the host, believing that he will lower his rate since he’s been on hiatus for so long and that his appearance will be of interest to many viewers.
The production company offered to pay Show NT$100,000 (about S$4,700) per episode, which is considered higher than the average hosting rate in Taiwan. However, the reports also pointed out that Show can supposedly command at least 100 times that amount in China, so it’s still peanuts compared to that.
In the end, Show’s side turned them down, with his manager explaining that “there are no plans to take on hosting work at the moment”. The (rather stingy, we might add) production company also lost the bid to the team behind variety show The Hunger Games, so Taiwanese host Pa Yu and former Energy member Kunda Hsieh will be accepting the job instead.
More time for Show to spend with his mum
Show doesn’t seem to be in a hurry to make money, anyway. His cheating scandal is pretty much the first major setback he’s had in his otherwise successful 25-year career as a singer and host, and his clothing label is still doing very well, with online sales even going up by 20 per cent since his breakup.
What’s more, it’s been rumoured that ‘cos Show is known to be very loyal when it comes to work (although obviously not with romantic relationships), his colleagues on long-running variety show 100% Entertainment have no intention of replacing him despite his sullied image. The team behind Street Dance of China also enjoyed working with him so much that producers allegedly plan to get him back for a new season next year, proving that he still has friends in the industry.
Guess he’s not a bad guy — he just needs to learn how to keep it in his pants
