Show Luo Opens Up About Mum’s Battle With Alzheimer’s: “Sometimes She Doesn’t [Recognise] Me”

Seeing your loved ones battle illness is heartbreaking, but for Show Luo, he is seemingly able to look on the bright side.

In a recent episode of Taiwanese variety show Dee Girl’s Talk, the 47-year-old opened up about his mum’s battle with Alzheimer’s disease (or dementia), which she has been living with for the past few years.

When asked about his 67-year-old mum’s current condition, the singer understandably became emotional.

“These days, every day is a brand new beginning. In the past, she probably had more worries and stress, such as taking care of stray dogs,” he said.

“Now, life is actually a little easier for her. In a way, it’s also a wonderful opportunity for her to rest.”

There are also days when his mum struggles to recognise him.

“Sometimes she remembers me, and sometimes she doesn’t,” Show said.

Naturally, the singer has thought about how heartbroken he would be if his mother completely forgot who he was one day.

He also isn’t sure if he would be able to hold back his tears if that day comes.

Show recalled that his mum once came to support him at an event, but looked at him and asked: “Where’s Ah-Xiang [Show]?”

He jokingly replied, “Ah-Xiang is at the back,” only for his mum to suddenly recognise him and respond: “You’re Ah-Xiang! How dare you lie to me!”

That said, the singer said that he is able to face the situation with a relatively relaxed attitude because he understands that, as long as his mother is healthy, it’s not actually important whether or not she remembers him.

“She can forget. That’s okay. I’ll remember for her,” he said.

Show has even mentally prepared himself for the day when his mother may completely forget who he is. That is why, whenever he has free time, he takes her out and spends time with her.

“She might forget everything five minutes later, but at least I can keep the memories of all the moments we shared,” said Show.
