Hong Kong actress Sheren Tang, 57, has always been open about her romantic relationships.

She famously dated actor Alex Man, 65, and singer Joe Cheng, 60, and admitted to being in a relationship with a married man, whom many speculated to be actor Kwong Wa.

Recently, a video of Sheren on Chinese talk show The Jinxing Show in 2016 has gone viral.

In the clip, the actress, who is single, was asked about her relationship with Alex and her reaction was hilarious.

“Wow! You are bringing up things that happened 30 years ago,” she exclaimed, before admitting that Alex was her first love.

They started dating after starring opposite each other in 1985 TVB drama The General That Never Was.

Sheren was only 19 then and they broke up after one-and-a-half years.

When host Jinxing asked if they were deeply in love, Sheren rolled her eyes before making a face, saying: "I can barely remember things that happened 10 years ago, let alone 30… I was too young, how would I understand what love was? You still ask me if I was deeply in love."

"Let me tell you, it was only when I was in my 30s that I looked back on my past relationships, and I realised that I didn't know what love was at all."

Her response says it all

Coming from a broken family where her parents were divorced, Sheren revealed she had no concept of love.

“So when I saw someone who could give me love, I thought he loved me very much. But later I found out that it was infatuation, not love,” she shared.

According to Sheren, Alex, who is nine years her senior, was like a father figure and mentor to her.

“To me, he was also a very good actor and a mature boyfriend, so he was like three-in-one. That’s how I felt at the time, and I admired him very much. There was also love, but it’s because he had these three qualities,” she said.

Alex doted on Sheren, and she was called the unreasonable one

Despite this, Sheren was labelled an unreasonable partner, and was accused of making Alex kneel in public to beg for forgiveness after a tiff.

However, Sheren denied this, saying that he did it on his own accord. "No, he made a mistake and he did that to show his sincerity. I didn't make him [do it],” she clarified.

“I don’t lose my temper, I’m the sort who walks away as soon as [she gets angry]. I don’t know how to quarrel.”

So why did they break up?

“Doting on someone alone is not enough. You still need two people [to make the relationship work]. Perhaps it's fate," said Sheren.

She added that Alex would always spare a thought for her but she’s not someone who would just do as she’s told.

“This is not my personality. I want to depend on myself. Even if I fall badly, I still want to take this path, then I can [learn from it and] grow," she said.
