Shaun Tam “Heartbroken” After Dad Ti Lung Pushes Him Away Mid-Hug
Looks like Hong Kong martial arts star Ti Lung is really not comfortable expressing affection, especially in public.
The 78-year-old was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Malaysia International Film Festival on July 26, and his son, actor Shaun Tam, decided to surprise him at the event.
Shaun, 45, told Hong Kong media that he had secretly planned the visit with local staff and media, keeping his parents completely in the dark.
Little did he expect a less-than-warm reception from his dad when he congratulated him on stage.
“I went on stage and hugged him for a while,” said Shaun. “He’s still the big martial arts hero — he quickly pushed me away and said, ‘Enough.’”
Talk about kungfu-level emotional deflection.
Shaun laughed it off but admitted: “It felt a little heartbroken. I hadn’t hugged him in so long.”
Apparently, five seconds of father-son affection was already pushing it for Ti Lung.
Maybe he was worried the embrace would overrun his nearly three-minute acceptance speech.
Or maybe he's just not a hugger.
Well, at least the push wasn’t obvious on camera.
