A sad day for many Hongkongers.

“Living In Hongkong Now, There's Disappointment Everywhere”: Sammo Hung, 70, On The Demolition Of One Of The City’s Most Famous Markets

Kowloon City Market, otherwise known as 'The Star Market', is well known its celeb patrons such as Sammo Hung, 70, Chow Yun Fat, 67, and Lau Ching Wan, 58.

It’s so popular that the Hongkong Tourism Board lists it as a site to visit for tourists.

However, it was recently reported that the market will be demolished and relocated under a redevelopment plan.

When asked about what he thought of the news, Sammo expressed his reluctance to see it go.

“I’ve been grocery shopping there for 50, 60 years now, I’ve followed adults there to buy groceries since [I was] young. After growing up, I continued going there, and will chat with the stall vendors there,” he said.

Sadly, Sammo said he would not be able to bid the market farewell in person because of his health issues. Also, he's not keen on leaving his house because of the pandemic.

When asked if he feels disappointed about the market’s closure, Sammo, said: “No, living in Hongkong now, there's disappointment everywhere."
