For Sammi Cheng, her Best Actress win at last month’s Hong Kong Film Awards was a long time coming.

The 50-year-old, who had been nominated nine times in that category over two decades, was overwhelmed with emotion on stage.

But audiences in China did not get to see her winning moment in its full entirety, no thanks to Guangdong broadcaster Pearl River Channel.

What happened to Sammi's arms?

During the telecast, Sammi's arms were blurred out because of her tattoos

Netizens were dumbfounded, with some saying that the star looked like "her arms were amputated”.

Some also joked that the broadcaster should have taken the opportunity to flash ads across her arms instead.

No air time for her tats

According to HK01, Sammi has at least five tattoos inked on both her arms. Most of them are inspiring messages like "See miracles in life every day" and “Love each other and love is kind”.

However, tattoos, regardless of how positive the messages are, are banned from appearing on Chinese television.

When Bruneian star Wu Chun starred in Chinese reality show Where Are We Going, Dad? in 2018, his tattoos too were blurred out.

Here's a closer look at her body ink
