Ruby Lin Reveals Why She Shut Her Work Studio In China... And It’s Not 'Cos She Was Cancelled
There was speculation that the Taiwanese actress was blacklisted when she deregistered her studio around the same time as Vicky Zhao’s scandal.
In August, when reports that Taiwanese actress-producer Ruby Lin’s work studio, which was based in Hengdian, China, had cancelled its business registration license in the mainland, rumours were rife that the 45-year-old was in some sort of trouble.
At that time, Chinese actress-director Vicki Zhao had just got blacklisted by the Chinese authorities and many wondered if Ruby had suffered the same fate.
Coincidentally, Ruby’s husband, Taiwanese actor Wallace Huo, too had deregistered his studio in China last year. He also parted ways with his long-time manager there.
However, it turns out it was all for business and personal reasons.
Setting the record straight
In a recent interview with a magazine, Ruby revealed that she decided to shut her studio in July this year and move operations back to Taiwan as she didn’t have many projects in China.
Doing so would not only allow her to consolidate resources, but she could also spend more time with her elderly mother.

Ruby recalled that when she was working on 2014 drama The Way We Were, she visited her mum and was surprised to see that all of the latter's hair had turned white.
"I am old, don't you know?" her mum said to her.
Ruby said the words touched her deeply and she resolved to spend more time with her mum.
Over the years, the actress, who was not married then, had been focusing on her career so she could give her mum a better life.
Little did she realise that she was so busy working that she ended up neglecting her mum.
"I forgot that what my parents need most is companionship. Hence, I decided to produce The Way We Were in Taiwan,” she said.
Now that she is based in Taiwan, Ruby is able to balance her work and family commitments.
Ruby and Wallace tied the knot in 2016 and have a four-year-old daughter nicknamed "Little Dolphin”.
