Smart Sunglasses Worn By TVB Actor Ron Ng In Call Me By Fire 2 Sells Out In China
When the lineup for Chinese competition show Call Me By Fire 2 was announced last month, many fans of Ron Ng, 43, and Raymond Lam, 42, were delighted to see the Hong Kong actors reuniting on screen.
The duo acted in TVB drama Twin of Brothers in 2004 together, and are good friends off screen too.
Ron's popularity has grown since appearing on the show, with many viewers complimenting him on his humour and wit.
He has also unknowingly started a fashion trend.
When he made his first appearance on Call Me By Fire, Ron was wearing a pair of sleek black sunglasses
While waiting for the other stars to make their entrance, he casually asked Raymond: “[Wanna] listen to some music?”
Confused, Raymond asked Ron what he meant and was surprised to find out that Ron was listening to music from his sunglasses, which has wearable technology.
He immediately took the glasses off Ron’s face and tried it on.
What followed next was a funny sequence of events, which we can only describe as the Brotherhood of Travelling Sunglasses, as Ron's sunnies were passed from one impressed star to the next.
“I thought he was acting cool with the sunglasses. Turns out they're headphones,” said Raymond to Wang Ta Lu, who was seated next to him. Ta Lu then had his turn at wearing the glasses, and when he was done, they were then passed to Hawick Lau.
“You can answer phone calls with it too,” said Ron, who admitted that he liked “wasting money” on “fancy and weird things”. He even joked that he often got told off by his mum for spending money on such “toys”.
If you didn't know, smart sunglasses have been available in the market for quite some time now, with the first known model created by Google back in 2011.
Who would have guessed that its appearance in Call Me By Fire was all it took for the sales of the glasses to increase exponentially?
The smart sunglasses went on to sell out in many stores, with some online sites even labelling the product as the “same model as Ron’s”.
In response to the news, an amused Ron took to his Weibo to write: [I came] here to appear in a variety show, but instead made it look like I was selling a product instead. I’m embarrassed.”
