More than four months after his quiet and sudden departure from TVB, Hong Kong actor Roger Kwok has revealed that his decision to leave was not entirely his own.

Roger, 61, made his first public appearance since leaving the station in 2025 on RTHK radio programme about pets Tail With Love, sharing that his exit was partly driven by a desire to change his lifestyle.

News of his departure first surfaced in late November when netizens noticed that his profile had been removed from TVB’s official website.

He had been with TVB for nearly 40 years, joining the network with 1986 drama City Story and going on to become a three-time TVB Best Actor and one of its most recognisable stars. His last drama was 2025 blockbuster The Fading Gold.

Since leaving, Roger said he has taken on a new role as a non-executive director at a listed company, and spends much of his time attending meetings and discussing strategy.

He noted that unlike acting work which felt “passive” and often bound by company arrangements, this phase of life feels more fulfilling.

He has also begun rediscovering his own life and spending more time on personal interests, including fitness and sports. He established a tennis league and has picked up new activities like pickleball and beach tennis.

He has not ruled out a return to acting, saying he is open to opportunities beyond TVB if a strong script comes along.

However, he acknowledged that his interest in acting may be shifting.

“I might one day not want to act anymore — I’ve felt that before,” he said, adding that he has recently been exploring simpler creative formats such as short-form videos, which he finds more flexible and enjoyable.
