They say a little kindness goes a long way and that was exactly what fans of Taiwanese singer Richie Jen, 56, got to witness at his concert last Sunday (May 28).

The woman whom Richie saved 22 years ago

During the song request segment at Richie's concert in Shenyang last weekend, a young woman stood up to share her story with the audience.

The lady, who said she's 23 years old, first revealed that she has known Richie for 22 years. She then flashed a photo of the singer cradling her when she was still a baby.

She went on to share that she suffered from a congenital heart defect when she was a year old, but was unable to go for treatment as her family didn't have money.

That was when Richie came into the picture.

"You saw the news [about my condition] when you were on your way to Shenyang for a concert. So you donated 30K yuan (S$5.7K) to me, which allowed me to go for the surgery," she said.

The woman's story immediately got the crowd cheering, while a shocked Richie responded: "You're all grown up already!"

Before ending her speech, the woman requested for Richie to perform his 1998 song 'Don't Change'.

"I hope that the love between us never changes, and that the love between humans will never change too," she said.
