Former Hong Kong actress Susanna Au Yeung passed away on Sunday (July 9) in the hospital at the age of 63 due to lung cancer.

Susanna’s husband, fellow Hong Kong actor Samuel Kwok, announced the bad news at 7 pm on Sunday and shared that the actress was only diagnosed with the terminal disease three months ago during their holiday in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She had a stroke during the trip and underwent three brain surgeries before she was found to be suffering from lung cancer.

The couple promptly returned to Hong Kong to seek treatment for Susanna after receiving the bad news, but as the actress’ condition was deteriorating rapidly, Samuel was devastated at the fact that “there were no medication that could cure her.”

The actor and his wife did not have any children during their 40-year marriage.

Susanna was best known for her role as Huang Rong in period drama Return Of The Condor Heroes, in which she starred alongside Andy Lau. She also starred in Hong Kong television series The Bund and The Yang’s Saga, just to name a few.

She subsequently quit showbiz to pursue qigong in 1991 and ran a qigong hospital where she worked as an acupuncturist.
