Retired Hongkong Star Cherie Chung Has Reportedly Made S$6.6mil From Property Investments

Joining the list of astute property investors is retired screen siren Cherie Chung. According to Hongkong reports, the former actress has a keen eye for property and has never made a loss in her years of investing.

The three properties that she currently owns have appreciated in value over time, and have a market value of more than HK$100 million (S$17.8mil).

Contrary to popular belief, Cherie didn’t inherit her wealth from her husband, advertising executive Michael Chu. In fact, after the 1997 Asian financial crisis and Sars in 2003, Michael’s businesses began closing one by one, and didn’t leave much assets behind when he passed away from stomach cancer in 2007.

According to reports, Cherie has been investing in property since 1986 and has made a killing over the years. A conservative estimate of her profit would be HK$37mil (S$6.6mil).

Cherie, who starred in iconic Hongkong films such as An Autumn's Tale (1987) and Peking Opera Blues (1986), retired from showbiz after marrying Michael in 1991. Despite her riches, Cherie leads a simple and carefree life. She enjoys her solitude and getting close to nature, often sharing pics of herself hiking on Weibo.

The former actress, who recently turned 60 (and still looks gorgeous as ever), revealed in a previous interview that she was invited to star in a reality show (and we know how much those pay), but she has no intention of making a showbiz comeback.
