Rainie Yang Reveals Her 16-Year-Old Dog Has Dementia

On May 5, Rainie took to Instagram to share pics of the little party she threw for Yumi’s 16th birthday.

In her caption, Rainie, who only just returned to Taiwan after spending months in China competing in Sisters Who Make Waves 2, wrote that she was thankful that she made it back in time for Yumi’s birthday.

However, things aren’t quite the same with Yumi, who has been diagnosed with dementia.

Rainie revealed that during the three months she was away, there was a change in Yumi’s behaviour and daily routine.

"But I am happy that when I finally met Yumi, I knew that she still remembered me. And she is still full of energy and willing to play with me, although I can tell that she behaves a little like an old woman,” wrote Rainie.

Though she is saddened by the news, Rainie isn’t all that surprised by the diagnosis, considering Yumi’s age. A 16-year-old dog is about 80 years old in human years.

“To be honest, no matter how prepared I am, I'm still scared to see her getting older until the day she can no longer accompany us. So I cherish every moment I have with her, even though she spends most of her time sleeping,” she said.

“Yumi, mummy really loves you, I hope you stay healthy and happy, eat and sleep well. Happy birthday!”

In 2018, Yumi had to undergo surgery to remove a mast cell tumour (MCT). The surgery was a success and the pooch recovered fully.
