Rainie Yang Reveals That Her Beloved 17-Year-Old Dog Passed Away In February

The Taiwanese singer was mourning in private for the past three months as she didn't want her fans to feel sad too.

Fans of Rainie Yang, 37, would know how much she dotes on her dog Yumi.

And every May 5, the star would, without fail, dedicate a post on social media to celebrate Yumi’s birthday.

This year, however, things were very different. Instead of a birthday post, Rainie revealed that Yumi had actually passed away three months ago. She was 17.

“Before I was going to share this piece of news, I thought about many things. I’m afraid that you guys would be worried, and I know that you would be saddened,” shared the singer.

“But on this day, May 5, I didn’t post Yumi’s birthday pictures like I did in previous years and you guys definitely found it strange. It's why I decided to let everyone know.... My precious Yumi already went to heaven on February 15 this year.”

She sort of knew this day would come

Rainie said last year, when she was very busy with work in China, the vet had already informed her many times that Yumi’s health was deteriorating. Rainie was also told that she should be prepared for the worst.

Hence the singer returned to Taipei immediately after completing all her jobs as she wanted to be with Yumi during her final days.

Too much to thank Yumi for

Rainie, who likened Yumi to a sweet child who was a gift from heaven, also expressed regret. “In these almost-17 years, I didn’t do enough [for her]. I was always out working so I didn’t spend enough time [with her], especially during the final year of her life,” she said.

The singer went on to thank her mother for taking care of Yumi.

“I think my mum is very noble. On top of her love for Yumi, she also wanted to let me work worry-free. Thank you mummy, it's been tough on you," said Rainie.

According to the singer, many of her friends visited Yumi during her final days to remind the dog to wait for Rainie to come home.

"She was by my side even on the day she left. This love [we had for each other] is something I will keep in my heart forever," added Rainie.

But it's still gonna take a while

Recalling the times they spent together, Rainie said, "Even though I've accepted the fact that you are no longer here, [I] still find myself crying ever so often. I miss you so much! I hope that you felt an abundance of love and happiness in this life. Having you is our family's fortune, love you forever, miss you."
