Taiwanese rock duo Power Station held their Because of Love concert at the Singapore Sports Hub last Saturday (Aug 20).

It was a much-awaited return to our shores for the band and no one, well apart from their fans of course, were happier to be touring again than the rockers, Yu Chiu-hsin, 53, and Yen Chih-lin, 54, themselves.

“Every time we visit different places for our concerts, we feel extremely excited. And especially because this is our first overseas performance since Covid hit, we were really looking forward to it,” they said in an interview with Taiwan's Apple Daily.

The duo even joked that they felt like they were “on vacation” but were “forced” to work by their team.

Hui Lu was the special guest during Power Station's concert

For their concert, Power Station also invited local singer, Boon Hui Lu, 28, as their special guest.

In the same interview, Hui Lu admitted to being nervous about the performance. “I still find it hard to believe that I'm able to perform on such an iconic stage and it's all thanks to my seniors. I really cherish [this opportunity]. I’ve always loved the songs of Power Station, especially the theme songs they recorded for local dramas. Those were part of my childhood memories.”

For those not in the know, Power Station were the voices behind many of our Mediacorp drama theme songs, including the iconic 'Wo Chi De Qi Ku' ('我吃得起苦') from Stepping Out and 'By A Dream' (‘逐梦') from World at Your Feet (2014).

Power Station and their "tour guide"

Hui Lu also stepped up as Power Station’s tour guide.

Since the guys arrived in Singapore earlier and had some time to sightsee, she planned a day’s worth of activities, so they could have an authentic “private tour”.

Chih-lin shared that a cafe they went to that sold durian, kaya and pulut hitam-flavoured cakes left a deep impression on him.

However, Chiu-hsin lamented how it wasn't durian season during their trip here. "But getting to have durian cake made me very happy still," he said. "I actually wanted to have the whole slice to myself, but my team only allowed me to have a few bites. They said I had to control my diet for the sake of my physique."

The trio had fun exploring Singapore together

Chi-lin, who is known to really dote on his two daughters, Mimi, 15 and Beibei, 13, also bought K-pop group Blackpink tees from a music store for them.

Taking Chi-lin’s lead, Chiu-hsin proceeded to buy up the remaining Blackpink tees, reportedly clearing out all the stock available in Singapore.

Since returning to Taipei, the duo have been under mandatory quarantine, and have said that they don’t have plans to return to work anytime soon. Instead, they are taking the time to rest after their Singapore concert.
