75-Yr-Old HK Actor Is On The Search For A Soul Mate For Marriage, Says Son Treats Him “Like A Stranger”

Hong Kong veteran lyricist and actor Peter Lai, 75, recently opened up about his personal life in an interview.

Peter has one son from his previous marriage which ended in 1992. He labelled his son as someone who “mooches off the elderly”, revealing that he’s been helping him pay off his credit card debt amounting to hundreds of thousands of Hong Kong dollars for about two years.

Peter only managed to clear off all of his son’s debts last month. 

He complained that the younger guy stays home all day, perpetually playing video games. He also said that he has nothing to talk about with his son, and that the latter ignores him and treats him “like a stranger”.

As such, it really doesn’t come as a surprise that Peter feels lonely.

He confessed he is now looking for a soul mate for company, and is publicly stating his intentions with marriage in mind.

“Lee Lung Kei can do it, why can’t I?” he said.

He's referring to veteran actor Lee Lung Kei, 73, who has a 36-year-old Chinese fiancée who made the news last year after being arrested for overstaying in Hong Kong.

When asked if he is worried about what would become of his son in the future when he passes on, Peter calmly replied: “Let him fend for himself. When I’m gone, he can live under the bridge, he’s not going to die, he can apply for public housing! He’ll survive."

Peter is famous for co-writing the lyrics to many popular Cantopop songs in the ‘70s and ‘80s alongside Sam Hui. Some of these tracks include Leslie Cheung’s ‘Monica’, and Sam’s ‘Susie of Tsim Sha Tsui’.

In the ‘90s, Peter went on to star in many TVB dramas until his contract with the broadcaster ended in 2012. He’s been active on YouTube in recent years, and often posts vlogs and showbiz insider news on his channel.
