Nicholas Tse’s Face Changed When He Was Told One Doesn’t Need To Be Good In Maths To Be An Architect, Which Was His Childhood Ambition
An architecture expert debunked the myth and also told Nicholas to “ask Daniel Wu”, who is a trained architect.
Nicholas Tse, 42, is a man of many trades — he's an actor, singer, entrepreneur, chef and food critic.
However, on a recent episode of a Chinese talk show, Nicholas revealed that his childhood dream was to be an architect.
Sadly, that didn't materialise because of what someone told him in school.
“I don’t remember if a senior or a teacher told me this," recalled Nic. "But they said that because my maths is bad, anything I build will collapse. So I eventually decided to not pursue architecture."
An architecture expert, who was also a guest on the show, then spoke up in response to Nicholas’ statement.
“You’ve really been misled. You only need to have knowledge of elementary arithmetic to pursue architecture. You can even ask Daniel Wu about it, he specialised in architecture too,” he said.
Turns out, the maths that architects need to pursue their line of work is not as complicated as everyone makes it out to be. The “elementary arithmetic” that the expert mentioned is about being familiar with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Nicholas' expression then changed and he let out a sad laugh when he realised that he gave up on his dream over something that was barely an obstacle.
Nicholas’ pal Daniel Wu graduated from the University of Oregon’s College of Design, where he majored in architecture.
In 2017, Daniel starred in Chinese reality show Dream House, in which he travelled to different parts of China to makeover buildings.
In one episode, Daniel and his construction team worked on an old village house in Chengde City. They then transformed it into the very impressive and very beautiful library, which is now known as the Mulan Weichang Visitor Center.
In 2018, the library was nominated for the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA)’s International Prize, which is also known as the Oscars of architecture.
It also won the German Red Dot Design Award — a testament to Daniel’s talent and skills.
Besides Daniel, there are also other celebs who also majored in architecture during their schooling days, including Hawick Lau, Raymond Lam and Eason Chan.
