Chinese netizens woke up to a rude shock yesterday (Sep 28) after hugely popular historical dramas Story of Yanxi Palace and Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace were taken down from video streaming sites in China.

The sudden removal caused a huge uproar, with many fans taking to the internet to express their displeasure.

Comments ranged from laments like “I have nothing to watch during meals” to the salty like “they ban whatever people like to watch” and “just watch anti-Japanese patriotic dramas every day”. The dramas also became one of the top searched topics on Weibo.
