Everyone knows by now that netizens can be really critical, especially when it comes to a celeb’s appearance.

Unfortunately for Story of Yanxi Palace star Xu Kai, 27, he was recently on the receiving end of body-shaming comments from carping critics.

Xu Kai’s latest drama She and Her Perfect Husband (爱的二八定律) is currently airing in both China and Taiwan. He stars as the lead alongside Yang Mi, 36, and the two have quite a number of intimate scenes in the series.

Guess they really want to see his six-pack?

In one of the scenes, a shirtless Xu Kai could be seen embracing Yang Mi. While the scene may be a dream come true for many of his fans, some netizens had other ideas.

The screenshot was posted on Weibo, where Chinese netizens mocked his physique, leaving comments such as "He has no muscles", “His body can’t make it” and “Simply put, he has no waist”.

Others wondered if he has “a high body fat percentage”.

Um, ouch?

Aside from that, netizens also had quite a bit to say about Xu Kai’s accent in the show.

Unlike many Mainland dramas that employ dubbing artistes to record the lines so as to make sure that everyone has a standardised accent, She and Her Perfect Husband retains the original voices of its stars.

Many noticed that Xu Kai spoke in a thick Taiwanese accent, and as expected, they weren’t okay with it.

“He's Chinese right? His character is from Shanghai, right?” questioned one netizen. Others sarcastically asked if “he is Taiwanese”.

“It’s better if [his] voice is dubbed,” wrote another netizen.

However, there were also a number of viewers who gathered to show their support for the actor, saying that his Taiwanese accent “sounded cute and personable”.
