Netizens Beg TVB Not To Make A Sequel To The Beauty of War

Was the drama really that bad?
Netizens Beg TVB Not To Make A Sequel To The Beauty of War

It's no secret that TVB dramas aren't as popular as they used to be (though General Manager Eric Tsang would beg to differ) but for netizens to say they don't want a second season of a particular show... well, that's just brutal.

Unfortunately, that's the case for 2022 TVB drama The Beauty of War, which starred Jeannie Chan, Angel Chiang, Hera Chan, Moon Lau and Rebecca Chu

The cast of The Beauty Of War

The drama, which was hyped as the TVB version of hit Korean high-society series The Penthouse, was plagued by criticisms and bad reviews when it aired in Oct last year.

Not only was lead actress Jeannie, 32, slammed for her OTT performance, the show was also accused of plagiarising classic 2000 ATV drama A Dream Named Desire.

Despite all that bad press, it's been reported that TVB has plans to make a sequel. We guess, there's no such thing as bad publicity?

The director of The Beauty Of War hinted that there'll be a Season 2 of the series

On New Year's Day, the director of the series, Yip Lim Sum, posted a picture on his Instagram. In the photo, he wrote in Chinese: "2023, continue to be beautiful, [we'll] meet again on the battlefield. A goddess is descending, the surprise multiplies, please look forward."

Netizens quickly speculated that Lim Sum is hinting at a second season of The Beauty of War.

And who is this "goddess" that is descending?

While some netizens have asked Lim Sum to have Jeannie reprise her role, some have requested for Hong Kong singer-actress Stephy Tang to be in the new season. Is it because Alex Fong, whom Stephy dated for 10 years, was in Season 1?

However, most netizens don't seem keen on having a second season of The Beauty of War at all, and have even started throwing shade at the cast on Chinese social media platform Xiao Hong Shu.

"[Cast] Jeannie Chan and Sisley Choi [in the sequel], then everyone can just give up on the show," offered one snarky netizen.

"Is Jeannie Chan going to be in it again? If so, goodbye," wrote another unimpressed netizen.
