Netizens are unconvinced that Fan Bingbing, Li Chen are still dating

In June, Chinese actress Fan Bingbing announced that she had called it quits with her fiancé, Chinese actor Li Chen. Later, Li Chen shared that he still remains friends with Bingbing. The ex-couple dated for four years prior to their split.

Since then, multiple reports have popped up speculating about the reason for the couple’s split, with some sharing that there was a third party in their relationship. Others were convinced that the couple had not broken up at all, and were just putting on an act for the public.

Recently, a screenshot of what appears to be a post made by Bingbing in her friends circle on WeChat has been making the rounds online.

The post was simply captioned, “Happy birthday!”. Bingbing has always been a cat lover, and is the proud owner of a number of pet cats. A few years ago, the actress and Li Chen had purchased a white cat together.

The then-couple also decided that their cat should share the same birthday as Li Chen, whose birthday falls on November 24. As a result, Bingbing often made posts on Li Chen’s birthday wishing both the actor and their pet cat a happy birthday.

In the comments of the post, a comment reading, “Wishing my cat a happy birthday” can be seen. Bingbing then added another comment, “Happy birthday to you (too)”.

Although the netizen who posted the screenshot online claims that the original post was made by Bingbing, with Li Chen commenting on it, the usernames and profile pictures of the accounts in the post have all been blurred out, casting doubts on the authenticity of the screenshot. The netizen insinuated that the former couple is now dating again.

“How can you tell that it’s Bingbing from a post like this?” one doubtful netizen wrote, while another commented, “I can easily edit hundreds of screenshots like this”.

Others have pointed out that it is perfectly normal to wish your friend a happy birthday, and that this is an unconvincing way of trying to prove that the ex couple is together again.
