Nancy Wu Says She Wasn’t Showing “Black Face” When Kalok Chow Won Most Popular Male Character At TVB Anniversary Awards
Hong Kong actress Nancy Wu’s sexy cut-out dress wasn’t the only thing that got everyone talking at last Sunday's TVB Anniversary Awards.
The 41-year-old, who was named Best Dressed, alongside Hera Chan and Joel Chan, was seen looking unhappy, which the Hong Kong press described as her showing a “black face”, when Kalok Chow picked up Most Popular Male Character for his role in Your Highness, sparking rumours that she was unhappy about the win.
According to reports, Nancy had a blank expression when Kalok, 27, was making his acceptance speech and also did not clap for him.
Netizens speculated that Nancy was rooting for her pal Joel, and felt sorry that he didn’t win.
Joel was later named Best Actor for his performance in Barrack O’ Karma 1986.
Yesterday (Jan 10), Nancy took to Instagram to share a snap with Benjamin Yuen, Selena Lee, Elaine Yiu and Joel, congratulating the latter on his win.
“A group of close friends who have known each other for 20 years, we have witnessed each other's achievements at work, and have each been through various ups and downs. It has not been easy, those experiences made us who we are today. Every step counts.
“Without the Joel Chan of the past, there will not be the Joel Chan of today. The one you should thank the most is yourself. Today's achievements are the result of your continuous efforts. Congratulations! I am very happy for you," she wrote.
When Kalok commented on her post with fire and heart emojis, Nancy took the opportunity to clarify the “black face” rumour.
Replying to Kalok’s comment, she wrote: "Kalok, I really didn't put on a black face[ when you won]! I was listening to your thoughts about winning the award! Congratulations."
Hong Kong media later pointed out that although Nancy had a blank expression, she did clap for Kalok when he finished his speech.
