Myolie Wu Says She’s Received Hate Comments Accusing Her Of Working In China Just “For The Money”
And she still hasn't been able to land lead roles there.
Hongkong actress Myolie Wu’s been riding on a high since winning the Chinese reality show Everybody Stand By 2, which pitches experienced actors against each other in a number of acting challenges.
But things still aren’t looking that rosy for the 41-year-old, who left Hongkong broadcaster TVB in 2015 to focus on her career in China. In a recent interview, Myolie shared that she’s still “unable to land lead roles” there.

Though Myolie received considerable attention in 2017 for her role in the drama, Nothing Gold Can Stay, she did not appear in any other dramas the same year, after giving birth to her older son, Brendan.
Since then, her popularity has largely stagnated, even as other Hongkong actresses who made the move to China, like Charmaine Sheh and Ada Choi, have seen their fortunes skyrocket.

Charmaine rose to fame after starring in the 2018 hit drama, Story Of Yanxi Palace. Charmaine later went on to act in other popular dramas like Winter Begonia, and The Legend Of Xiao Chuo.
Similarly, Ada saw her popularity rise after appearing in the 2011 drama, Empresses In The Palace. Now, the 47-year-old has largely pivoted to reality and variety shows, often appearing on them with her husband, Chinese actor Max Zhang.
Lead roles are hard to come by
Myolie shared: “I've not acted in a lead role till now, I think it’s really hard [to get such roles]. To be honest, I’ve always felt that when it comes to acting competitions it’s very hard to be fair.”
And of course, she’s received her fair share of hate comments, with Myolie revealing that she’s read comments from netizens who assume that she “went to China for the money”.
They'll be a family-of-five soon
The actress, who’s currently pregnant with her third child, also went on to share that she doesn’t expect any special treatment just ‘cos she’s pregnant.
“Rather than have everyone be concerned about my private life, I’d prefer for the public to notice my acting skills,” she said, adding that she took part in Everybody Stand By 2 without anyone knowing that she was pregnant.
