Myolie Wu, 45, Plays The Mother Of Chinese Actor, 38, In Upcoming Drama

After leaving TVB a decade ago, Hong Kong actress Myolie Wu, 45, has mostly been starring in Mainland Chinese productions.

Her upcoming drama Overdo sees her playing the role of mother to Chinese stars Fu Xinbo, 38, and Zhang Linghe, 27.

Unsurprisingly, their age gap has become a hot topic online. Many zeroed in on the fact that Xinbo, who plays Myolie’s on-screen older son, is only seven years younger than her IRL.

In reality, Myolie's has three sons with her businessman husband Philip Lee. Their oldest, Brendan, turns eight in October, while Ryan is six, and Liam, four.

Myolie once revealed in an interview that the roles she’s been given in recent years have not been ideal, and that she has lost the place of leading lady.

However, the actress remained positive about the situation. “I’ve played many uninspired leading roles in the past, and now, I’m willing to take on more interesting roles, and it’s okay even if I’m a supporting female character. Even if I’m asked to [play someone old], I feel I’ll be okay with that,” she said.

She had gone on to put her words into action. Her performance as a mistress in 2025 drama A Better Life, where she was seen going head to head with lead actress Sun Li, was met with praise.

And it looks like Myolie’s upcoming work will also see her taking on the challenge she wished for.

Age discussions aside, many are now anticipating the new drama. 

Behind the scenes snaps from the set show Myolie dressed in a dark qipao with a grim expression on her face, and according to reports, she will be playing a crucial role when it comes to conflicts surrounding her on-screen family.

Already, netizens can’t wait to see what they believe would be a strong performance from the cast, while others have said they are simply excited to watch the “super good-looking family”.
