Ming Dao has been in the news a lot this year. In January, his family tragedy made headlines when his elder brother killed himself and his wife and son after reportedly racking up more than NT$2mil (S$90,000) in debt. Then in June, the former 183 Club member made the shocking announcement that he's actually married to former pop star Wang Ting Xuan and they have a four-month old son together.

This time around, the 40-year-old is in the news again for being... a really good salesman. According to reports, Ming Dao was invited by his Taiwanese actress pal Zhang Ting to go on DouYin to sell beauty products. Within the first 40 minutes, 40,000 sets were sold, which equates to NT$85mil (S$3.9mil) in sales.

More importantly, shoppers were actually interacting with the stalls, trying things on and making purchases, rather than simply browsing and walking through. There are still plenty of shuttered units, and Level 2 remains much quieter than the ever-busy ground floor, but the atmosphere felt noticeably livelier during our visit. Bugis Street is also hosting its “Somewhere @ Bugis Street” weekend events as part of its ongoing efforts to bring more activity to the area.
