Mickey Huang And Summer Meng, Who Just Welcomed Their First Child, Wrongly Accused Of Abandoning Their Dog For Their Baby

Never assume anything, people.

Taiwanese host Mickey Huang, 50, and his actress wife Summer Meng, 30, welcomed their first kid, a daughter nicknamed “Corn Huang” on May 19, and promptly shared pics of the baby girl on their Instagram.

However, just one day before the birth of their daughter, the couple found themselves caught up in a very unnecessary controversy.

Earlier, on May 16, Summer posted a picture with her pet poodle Yabi on her IG, writing that Yabi probably doesn’t know that his younger sister, or well, Summer and Mickey’s baby, is about to arrive.

“Thinking about how I won’t be able to see him as often after this, I feel like I’ll miss him so much, my beloved Yabi,” she wrote in her caption.

After seeing her post, netizens then assumed that Summer had “abandoned" her furbaby after getting pregnant, and began sending hate her way.

Incensed, Mickey then wrote a post to retaliate against these unfound accusations on May 18.

In his post, Mickey explained that the couple did not abandon Yabi. As it turns out, Yabi has always stayed with Summer’s parents as he’s a family pet. Before Summer got pregnant, the couple often brought Yabi over to their place for sleepovers.

“The little pooch will come over to our house occasionally, but has always stayed at the Meng family home for the past 10 years. Even before we started dating, and when Summer moved out of her family home, the pooch has always been taken care of by Mama Meng,” Mickey explained.

They lurve Yabi, okay?

He then went on to share that the couple decided not to have Yabi over for sleepovers for the time being, as they would most likely be busy taking care of their daughter. Additionally, they’ll need time to properly introduce the two, as they have no idea how Yabi would react to the baby.

Summer also edited the caption of her original post to add more context. She revealed that Yabi has a documented history of being aggressive with kids, and has bitten adults a number of times too. Thus, she made the decision to separate Yabi from her newborn for the time being.

Mickey also shared that even he has been bitten by Yabi before.

“[Yabi and I] only became closer after slowly cultivating a relationship. But how do we start doing so for a newborn? Dogs might not be able to control their strength well, and newborns wouldn’t know how to interact with a dog too. Getting along with each other? That should be saved for the next step,” he wrote.

Being a parent (of any kind) is hard work

In any case, Summer and Mickey’s love for their four-legged friends should have never been doubted in the first place. Mickey is well-known for being an awesome owner to his own dog, Genki, who passed away in 2019 at the age of 18.

Apart from spending over S$13.5K consulting multiple vets to find a way to treat Genki after he fell ill in 2018, Mickey once revealed that he even made sure never to go overseas for too long after getting Genki, for fear that Genki would miss him.
