Mickey Huang Once Told Us Intimate Scenes Are Off-Limits For Him; Hard To “Look Good” And Not “Be Too Much” At The Same Time

Mickey Huang’s shocking video confession admitting to sexual harassment claims yesterday (June 19) has sent shockwaves through showbiz. He was hospitalised after being found with self-mutilation wounds on the left side of his body, but was discharged this afternoon.

His wife, Taiwanese actress Summer Meng, 31, addressed reporters outside the hospital yesterday, confirming that she will stand by him to face this situation together as a family. The couple has a one-year-old daughter together.

8days.sg took another look at an interview conducted with the host six years ago, where he shared more about how marriage is a form of “restriction” that is expected by society, and why he refuses to act out intimate scenes.

The interview was filmed in mid-2017, when Mickey came to Singapore to host a charity show, making a cameo appearance on Mediacorp long-form drama 118 2 at the same time. In the show, Mickey plays himself, stopping by 118 for a quick kopi break, while the coffeeshop denizens get excited meeting a celebrity.

In true Mickey fashion, the 51-year-old is confident and articulate throughout the interview. He’s in his element, cracking jokes, name-dropping celebs and hamming it up for the camera, even with questions that could be more challenging for a lesser star, like when he was asked his opinion on the decline of Taiwan’s showbiz scene.

He also shared that there are three types of scenes he’d reject — “kiss scenes, fighting scenes, and crying scenes”.

“I can’t do intimate scenes as well. ‘Cos you just suddenly meet, and then you’ll have to…” he trails off, before pantomiming a kiss.

No kiss scenes for Mickey.

“That’s really difficult. And you have to look good while kissing too. And then, you can’t be ‘too much’ either. It’s not like you really love her. I think it’s really hard. Regardless of whether it’s a brief kiss, or something more intense,” Mickey went on to explain, before musing: “ Wow, I think the intense ones are even tougher. You have to roll around…”

When the interview was conducted in 2017, Mickey had been publicly dating Summer for three years. The couple first started dating in 2014, and tied the knot in 2020.

So, when he was asked if he had plans to settle down and tie the knot, Mickey was prepared with an answer.

“Actually, I don’t think that marriage is what’s needed for one to settle down. When you’re dating and the relationship goes smoothly, that’s a form of settling down too. You have a form of support, you know there’s someone waiting for you and missing you. It’s not necessarily marriage [that is the precursor for settling down]. When it comes to marriage, it’s more of a restriction that the entire world [practises, saying:] ‘Oh, it’s time for the two of you to get married, to have kids.’” he said, ending off with a laugh.

He then went on to share that his relationship is “very stable and blissful”, and that they didn’t have plans to get married just yet.

Finally, Mickey went on to give a bit of insight on his thoughts about relationships and love life, saying: “I think our fate [as humans] is to have dated a couple of times, maybe hurt some people — we’ve been hurt ourselves too, it goes both ways — and then slowly find the right one. So everyone’s story is different, and I’m not in a rush [to settle down].”

Mickey previously dated Taiwanese actress-host Dee Hsu for four years, before an acrimonious split in 2000. At that time, it was reported that Mickey had dumped Dee for fellow host Bowie Tsang. Mickey and Bowie split up in 2004.
