We all know how well-loved Mandopop King Jay Chou is, and can probably agree that it takes some real guts to diss the singer publicly.

It clearly wasn't an issue for Taiwanese rapper MC HotDog … until he realised his wife had a problem with any sort of Jay slander.

MC HotDog recently released a new track, ‘Still My Own Way’ (依然我行我素), and it didn’t take long for many to speculate that a portion of the song was dissing Jay.

Some of the lyrics include: “Dad, I’m home” (爸 我回来了), “Smoking a Cuban cigar” (抽古巴的雪茄), and “If you really can’t write any songs, please get lost”.

“Dad, I’m home” is the title of one of Jay’s songs from 2001, while the music video of his 2020 single ‘Mojito’ was shot on the streets of Cuba.

A comment left by a netizen on MC HotDog’s YouTube page reads: “Is this [about] who I guess it is? There are a couple of lines in the lyrics that make it quite obvious.”

In response to that comment, MC HotDog only wrote: “It’s also an art to keep mum if you see through it.”

Many then took that as his admission to dissing Jay.

MC Hotdog with his non-celeb wife and daughter

MC HotDog has further confirmed the speculations when he revealed that he had gotten into a fight with his wife.

In a social media post, he shared that he has been in a three-day-long cold war with his wife, who was unhappy he had dissed Jay in the song.

Turns out, his wife is a hardcore Jay fan.

The rapper tried to appease his wife by saying: “I was genuinely not dissing him. If you listen to the song closely, [you’d realise that] I’m scolding everyone, not just Jay. I even scolded myself.”

His reasoning did little to help his case. In fact, he made it worse and she threatened to leave home.

Jay’s close pal, Taiwanese singer Devon (弹头), would later share a video of his daughter in a recording studio with the caption: “My daughter [recorded] some raps this time. I was only gone for a while to use the washroom, and when I came out, she was already done recording.”

When asked if his post was a dig at MC HotDog’s track, Devon said: “I had unintentionally discovered my daughter’s gift for rapping, and was simply expressing my admiration for her talent. MC HotDog is a senior in the industry, and also my friend. I would ask that others don’t link the two issues together.”
