Tidying Expert Marie Kondo Says Her Home Is Now “Messy”

We’re sure you've heard about Marie Kondo and her Konmari method of only keeping things that “spark joy”.

Thanks to her Netflix show Tidying Up With Marie Kondo, Marie, 38, has become a household name, with many swearing by her simple, yet effective methods.

But why has the tidying guru given up on keeping her house perfectly organised?

In a recent interview with The Washington Post, Marie reveals that her life is now vastly different since the birth of her third child, a son, in 2021.

She admits that her home is now “messy”, but feels that it is “the right way for [her] at this time at this stage of [her] life”.

Basically, the things she does these days still spark joy for her, but her priorities have shifted.

“Up until now, I was a professional tidier, so I did my best to keep my home tidy at all times. I have kind of given up on that in a good way for me. Now I realise what is important to me is enjoying spending time with my children and home,” Marie told The Washington Post.

She also understands that a perfectly organised space might not be “realistic” for some.

And we’re sure many parents would nod their heads in agreement.

Marie now lives in Los Angeles with her husband, their two young daughters and baby son.

She still encourages others to “create their own rhythm” and their “own routines, based on what makes them happy”.

In her interview, Marie also said that she realises as her children grow up, "her way of life will change again”, and that she will “keep looking inward” to ensure that she is leading her “kurashi” — a term which, according to her site, roughly translates to “way of life” or “ideal way of spending our time”.
