Marcus Chin Just Got His First Top 10 Award, But Why Is He Happier To Win The First Best Radio Programme Award?
So many firsts.

At this year’s Star Awards, we saw three first-time Top 20 Most Popular Male and Female Artistes winners — Hong Ling, Bonnie Loo and Marcus Chin.
And we dare say, no one was as shocked as Marcus when his name was called out by overseas guest presenter, Ella Chen.

Seriously, just look at his reaction.

Rising to greater heights...
And the very first words the 67-year-old uttered onstage?
"I can’t believe [it]. I’m very thankful to — this award is determined by votes, right? — to those who voted for me”.
Then, Marcus, who is 1.58m-tall, a nugget of information that will matter in a bit, launched into what was probably the most inspirational speech of the night.

What a speech
And here it is:
“I never thought that I’d get a Top 10 Award, because every year, I’m just keeping everyone company on the nominations list. [At some point,] I felt that there might have been a height requirement [to win the award].
Today, after getting this award, I feel as if I’ve grown taller by a few inches.
I feel like throughout my showbiz journey, I’ve made a number of investments. The first investment, is in trust. I believed that I would be able to make it someday. The second investment, is in learning. I feel that there is no end to learning, we should strive to continue learning every day. The third investment, is in taking action. We must always take action. And the last, the most important investment, is in perseverance. To persevere till the very end, to never leave this industry."

No words? Well, a thumbs-up works just fine too
Surprisingly, Marcus revealed in a post-show Zoom interview that his speech was not prepared beforehand. Colour us impressed.
“I actually attended some courses, and learnt a little about [these] theories, so I looked back on my showbiz journey, [and came up with my speech],” he said.
He later added that he still “can’t quite express in words” how he feels at having won his first popularity award.

Despite his rousing speech, Marcus does not consider his Top 10 win his biggest victory of the night.
Rather, it was his joint Best Radio Programme Award win, which was shared by his fellow Love 97.2FM The Breakfast Quartet co-hosts, Mark Lee, Dennis Chew [who won his tenth Top 10 Award this year] and Chen Biyu.
“I'm more pleased about winning that award with The Breakfast Quartet team because this is the very first award that’s dedicated to radio shows [in Star Awards history], and so I'm especially happy to have won it,” he said.
