HK Actress Manna Chan, 70, Made Her Own Wealth By Investing In Property After Her Divorce; Is Now Reportedly Worth S$17mil

Semi-retired veteran Hongkong actress Manna Chan recently made her television comeback in Cantonese drama Modern Dynasty as a grandmother with a patriarchal mindset. In real life, however, she has proven that a woman doesn’t need a man to get by.
The 70-year-old, who has been in showbiz for five decades, divorced her husband after giving birth to their daughter but still managed to get really, really rich all by herself.
Just how well-off is she? Well, when her daughter got married in 2016, Manna gave a dowry that included HK$7mil (S$1.2mil) cash and a HK$4mil (S$689,000) Ferrari.
What an apt birthday cake
According to reports, her secret to accumulating so much wealth was buying up real estate when the property market was affected by financial crises or the SARS outbreak, and then collecting long-term rent.
Manna is said to have bought and sold property 11 times, and she once claimed on a talk show that she has never lost money from any of her investments.
However, due to the rising housing prices in Hongkong, Manna has since switched to investing in property overseas instead and is now rumoured to have a net worth of at least HK$100mil (S$17.2mil).
Not bad at all for someone who is semi-retired
Manna now lives by herself in a 232 sqm luxury home in the Hung Hom residential district, and her place boasts a gorgeous 270-degree view of Victoria Harbour.
Her kids are really successful too. Daughter Joie attended Yale and is now a dentist, while son Allen, who graduated from Stanford and Harvard, is a heart transplant surgeon in the U.S.
