Man Performs CPR On Woman & Saves Her Life; Gets Accused Of Groping Her Instead

A man in China has come under fire for saving a woman’s life.

Yes, you read that right.

On July 12, a woman fainted in a crowded area of Hengyang, a city in China’s Hunan Province. She turned completely pale, and had no pulse.

A female doctor who was passing by jumped into action and performed CPR on the woman. However, the woman did not show signs of recovering and the doctor, who was spent, began to call out for help.

Thankfully, a male passerby, Pan, stepped in and exchanged places with the doctor. According to reports, he then performed CPR on the woman for 10 minutes before her pulse returned and she was able to open her eyes.

Pan was later identified to be a 42-year-old medical lecturer at the Hunan Environmental Biology Technical College, and had picked up CPR skills from participating in football matches and marathons.

The doctor stayed by their side the entire time, monitoring the woman’s vitals, while Pan asked those in the crowd to call for an ambulance. 

The police and medical personnel soon arrived at the scene, and the woman was accompanied by family to the hospital.

The incident, which was filmed by another passerby, unfortunately reached the wrong side of the internet.

One would’ve expected Pan to receive praise for saving the woman’s life. But Chinese netizens accused him of touching her “inappropriately”, with some saying his hands were placed too close to her breasts.

And suddenly everyone’s a CPR expert.

A number criticised him for “groping” the woman, while others said a woman should’ve taken over the doctor instead.

When interviewed by Chinese media, Pan said he had used proper medical technique, placing his hands over the woman’s sternum like he had learnt in professional training lessons.

He also asserted that neither the doctor nor the medical staff who later arrived at the scene found any issues with his CPR technique.

Sadly, Pan has been left traumatised by the internet’s reaction.

“If I knew things were going to end up like that, I might not have offered to help at all. This was really a disappointing [outcome],” he said.

Pan’s colleague has also spoken up in his defense, vouching that he’s a good person who’s really into sports, and is always full of positive energy. The colleague added that he did not understand why Pan was targeted by netizens despite doing a good deed.
