According to his doctor, the consequences could have been fatal if he delayed seeking treatment.

Man’s Lung Collapses After Doing 20 Push-Ups And Skipping Rope

A man from Henan, China, recently decided to get fit as part of his New Year’s resolution. In order to achieve his goal, he began skipping rope and doing push-ups. That’s when things went horribly wrong.

According to Chinese media, the man did two sets of 10 push-ups and skipped rope. He woke up the next morning feeling severe chest pains. He also experienced difficulty breathing and pain in his rib cage when he climbed stairs.

He was in such agony, he decided to seek medical help at a hospital.

It turned out to be the best decision he could have made.

The doctor discovered the man had punctured his lung while exercising, leading it to partially collapse. At that point, one side of the man’s lungs was so damaged, it had reduced to a third of its original size.

The condition is also known as pneumothorax, and happens when air enters one’s chest cavity, creating pressure against the lungs.

His doctor said the man's condition would have gotten more severe over time once more air entered his lungs, as the increased pressure would've caused irreversible damage, and could potentially be life-threatening.

Thankfully he sought treatment in time, and is now recuperating.

Many were shocked to find out that the man, who appeared to be quite young, suffered such serious consequences from one session of highly intensive exercise.

This is a good reminder to always listen to your body, and to not push yourself to the extreme when doing high intensity workouts.

Though 20 push-ups isn't exactly high intensity, right?
