Malaysian Star Joey Chua Trolled By Chinese Netizens For Sharing A Post Remembering Nanjing Massacre Victims
The 27-year-old, who is now dating Taiwanese actor Wang Talu, was accused of "jumping on the bandwagon" because she's not Chinese.
On December 13, China marked the 84th anniversary of the Nanjing Massacre and many artistes shared posts on Weibo to remember the victims.
Among them is Malaysian singer-actress Joey Chua, who is best known for being the girlfriend of Taiwanese star Wang Talu. Currently based in China, the 27-year-old gained popularity in the mainland after taking part in reality competition Youth With You 2.
"It’s the end of the year, [let’s] pay tribute to [our] compatriots,” wrote Joey.
Seems pretty harmless, right?
However, some Chinese netizens took issue with her post and criticised her for “jumping on the bandwagon”.
There were comments like “You will do anything to earn renminbi", “You are not Chinese, you're just following the footsteps of everyone" and "Do Malaysians really feel anything about this? Or is your company using your account to post this ‘cos you can’t not mention it?".
