Malaysian Singer Michael Wong Has A Homestay Near The KL Twin Towers That He Spent S$48K Renovating
Sadly, it's been temporarily abandoned 'cos of the pandemic.
Out of all the businesses that are running in the midst of a pandemic, those that rely on travellers have been hit particularly hard, and Taiwan-based Malaysian singer Michael Wong aka Guang Liang knows exactly how that feels.
In an interview with Apple Daily, the 51-year-old Ipoh native revealed that he had spent over NT$1mil (S$48,000) on renovating an old 132 sqm apartment near the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur with the intention of turning it into a cosy homestay for tourists.

Unfortunately, COVID-19 threw a wrench into his plans.
While the entire unit is now fully furnished and ready for people to move in, it is not yet open to the public and is temporarily abandoned.
“The pandemic has made me realise that you shouldn’t force anything,” Michael sighed. “I was told that I lost the opportunity to make money when I took on the musical, but I think the purpose of life isn’t just to make money.”
He continued: “I can’t travel during the pandemic, but instead, it allowed me to create more and enrich myself. It just so happened that the musical came to me. I think this is fate. It could also become a tour in the future so we can perform in different cities around the world, which is pretty good work experience.”
Michael is set to star in a musical in January next year
Michael also shared about what he wants to do after he retires, and that is to “become a bridge for tourists” to help them understand more about his hometown, Ipoh.
“I want to make travelling more than just about shopping and staying in a hotel,” he explained. “Instead, it will be about experiencing the local culture and listening to the story of the land with a local as your guide.”
