When Hongkong-based Malaysian actress Angie Cheong, 50, adopted her then two-year-old son Hanson in 2006, she was fully aware that he suffered from congenital heart disease.

In fact, his condition was so serious, he was once in a nine-week coma. Doctors also said the boy could die at any time if his condition deteriorated.

Despite knowing full well how tough the road ahead would be, Angie was set on adopting Hanson. Her reason? He had called her ‘mum’ the first time they met.
