Taiwanese Celeb Makiyo Still Smokes Despite Being 8 Months Pregnant; Her Sister Says It’s OK 'Cos Their Mum Did The Same
Makiyo’s mum passed away from lung cancer seven years ago.

Taiwanese star Makiyo, 38, who announced her pregnancy and marriage to a Taiwanese businessman working in the medical aesthetics industry in May this year, was recently photographed smoking outside a restaurant with her husband and older sister.
According to reports, the star appeared to be taking extra-long drags on her cigarette, and even threw her cigarette butt on the street after she was done smoking.
The release of the pictures attracted much attention from netizens, many of whom left comments criticising Makiyo for continuing to smoke despite being pregnant.
According to America’s Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, smoking during pregnancy can cause damage to the unborn baby.
There is a risk that the unborn baby might suffer tissue damage, particularly in the lung and brain. Some studies also suggests a link between maternal smoking and cleft lips.
When reached for a comment, Makiyo’s older sister came to her defense, revealing that the star has cut down on her vices ever since she found out she was pregnant.
She shared that Makiyo is now abstaining from alcohol and refraining from clubbing.
However, as Makiyo has been a smoker for over 20 years, she found it impossible to go cold turkey and quit smoking altogether.
“When our mum was pregnant [with us], she also smoked like crazy, and all three of us [siblings] are all fine, aren’t we?” Makiyo’s sister went on to assert. Makiyo has two older sisters.
Seven years ago, when Makiyo’s mother lost her battle with lung cancer, Makiyo vowed to quit smoking. Similarly, when she announced her pregnancy, she made the same vow, declaring that she would stop smoking once and for all.
However, it seems like her efforts have not been successful. When asked about her attempts to quit smoking, Makiyo shared that she found it hard to resist the temptation whenever she saw her friends lighting up.
