Louise Lee, 73, Says She Will Not Act Anymore As She Is "Almost Deaf" In Her Left Ear
Many of us grew up watching Hong Kong actress Louise Lee in TVB dramas such as A Kindred Spirit (1995) and Heart Of Greed (2007). She was also the star of 2005 Mediacorp drama Portrait Of Home.
Sadly, the 73-year-old star will not be acting anymore.
Recently, Louise was at an event with veteran TVB actress Law Lan, 89, when she was asked if she has been itching to act again.
Louise's last drama was 2017's Heart and Greed, the third instalment of the Heart Of Greed series.
To our disappointment, the actress' answer was a hard no.
Sharing that she's enjoying retirement life, Louise, who recently appeared in a commercial as a flight attendant, said: "I'm getting old and I care a lot about living an ordinary life. I need an ample amount of sleep and rest."
She continued: "If I agree to act in dramas, everyone would have to accommodate to my resting hours, which will be very hard on them. If that's the case, I'd rather not take on those jobs."
This led Law Lan, who's 16 years older than Louise, to quip: "How old are you? These days those in their 70s are still considered young."
Louise, however, shared that there's another reason she's quitting acting: her deteriorating hearing.
"Now I'm very afraid of noise because there's a lack of balance in the hearing of my left and right ears. I'm almost deaf in my left ear and I can't hear anything even when I dig my own ear. On the other hand, according to the results of my check-up results, the hearing in my right ear is as good as a person in their 20s," she said.
Louise also urged everyone to not blame the elderly for their "selective hearing".
"When the environment is noisy, we can't really hear anything," she lamented.
According to reports, in 2019, Louise suffered from sudden deafness, and was left with only 30 to 40 per cent of hearing in her left ear.
Her condition worsened over the last five years, leaving her with only 20 per cent of hearing in her left ear now.
Hong Kong media also claimed that the actress suffered from tinnitus for many years and had to rely on painkillers to ease her headache at the initial stages.
Louise later shared that she only realised something was wrong with her left ear when she could no longer hear her washing machine and cellphone.
She now has to wear a hearing aid in order to carry on with her daily activities.
