TVB Actor Louis Yuen Regrets Not Letting His Mum Find Love Again After His Dad Passed Away
The actor said he found it hard to accept her being with someone other than his dad.

TVB actor Louis Yuen, 54, recently made an appearance on Hongkong talk show Mama’s Day, which is hosted by Candice Yu, Mimi Lo and Grace Chan.
As its title suggests, the show features celeb mums and other stars who share close relationships with mummy dearest.
Louis candidly spoke about his relationship with his mum, revealing that she once gave up the chance at a new relationship because he found it hard to accept her being with someone other than his dad.
Louis's dad died from a sickness when the actor was just 17, and since then, it’s just been his mum and him navigating life together.
At a young age, Louis felt the responsibility of being the only man of his household and took upon the task of looking after the family.
As such, his reaction to another man pursuing his mum was less than ideal because he was, in his own words, “too young and immature”.
He went on to say: “My mum did not want to see me unhappy, so she chose to give up on a new relationship. After growing up, I realised just how selfish I was back then! My mum also needs people to dote on her, and I regret reacting that way then. I should have encouraged her [to pursue the new relationship] instead.”
Louis, who is also affectionately known as “Xiang Zai”, also said that he inherited his optimistic personality from his mum, adding that they were the type of people who treated others with sincerity and could smile through life’s obstacles.
Louis also said his mum has always been his number one fan and would tune in to his dramas and laugh heartily at the jokes he makes.
“She has a corkboard above her bed, where she pins articles of my interviews,” he revealed.
Mimi then chimed in, saying: “Xiang Zai’s mum really admires him. Every time he appears in a show, his mum would be the first to catch it!”
Louis then jokingly mentioned that because he resembled dad, his mum would always look at him with “heart eyes”, as though she's looking at her lover.
According to Louis, a group of his friends, including fellow celebs Cutie Mui, Alvina Kong and Joyce Chen, have formed a “mummies group” for their mums, so the older ladies can have get-togethers.
“We often bring our mums out for meals and to hang out with each other. It just so happens that all our mums are widowed, so we make it a point for them to meet regularly," said Louis.
