Hongkong actor Ray Lui, 64, who is perhaps best known for his role in the classic 1980 TVB series The Bund, is said to be worth a whopping 1bil yuan (S$2 1 0mil) thanks to the successful investments he made with the help of his wife, Chinese businesswoman Yang Xiaojuan.

And with such great financial power inevitably comes a super swanky abode in Hongkong, which the couple shares glimpses of on their respective social media accounts from time to time.

More importantly, shoppers were actually interacting with the stalls, trying things on and making purchases, rather than simply browsing and walking through. There are still plenty of shuttered units, and Level 2 remains much quieter than the ever-busy ground floor, but the atmosphere felt noticeably livelier during our visit. Bugis Street is also hosting its “Somewhere @ Bugis Street” weekend events as part of its ongoing efforts to bring more activity to the area.
